‘The excitement surrounding Bucharest’s dubstep sensation TRG has been steadily growing with Mary Anne Hobbs championing his first release, Put You down/ Broken Heart on BBC Radio 1, followed by an enviable music press coverage in ATM, iDJ, Mixmag, Dummy, One Week To Live and support from the blogosphere.

Releasing later tracks on Hotflush, Hessle Audio, Subway, Immerse, Audio Freakz have put TRG firmly on the music map, with sonic excursions from dubbed-out minimal finesse to mutant garage revival to full-on breakbeat mayhem.
Says Pitchfork:”More evidence that swing is in the air comes from an unlikely location: Romanian producer TRG.

As new school dubstep wallows in mid-range distorted synths and energy through b-line modulation, this producer seems to have found a rich vein of form inspired by dubstep’s earliest years.”

Drawing from a range of influences that include Basic Channel, early jungle, dark garage, classic dancehall and wonky electro, TRG’s tracks and remixes by Martyn or 2562 have been rinsed by diverse DJs such as Mary Anne Hobbs, Tayo, Skream, Benga, Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Kode 9, DJ Flight, Bailey, Pinch, Distance, Appleblim.

The tunes have garnered praise from dubstep, minimal, techno to breakbeat and drumandbass scenes. His remix work includes interpretations for Tayo, Baobinga, Black Canvas to name a few. His collab with Benga and garage/ dnb don Zinc has been released on the influential Red Bull Music Academy Various Assets Compilation.

With appearances on the genre defining Dubstep Allstars mixed CD series on Tempa and a forthcoming single on the same label, as well as being included on mighty Soul Jazz Records’ Steppaz Delight compilation, TRG sets the mark for eclectic bass music in 2008.’]]>

ITAL TEK - Cyclical
Planet Mu

Positioned on the shiny bit of the cutting edge of dubstep electronica, Alan Myson’s iTAL tEK project has won over a legion of fans in the last year or two with massive releases for SQUARE and Planet Mu providing the essential platform for his intricate programming abilities and moody attitude ridden dubstep style.

His debut full length continues his previous good work with a very coherant and personally touched collection of hi-end dubstep convolutions that sounds like the ideal succesor to the Planet Mu IDM staples of yesteryear. Over eleven tracks Ital Tek sweeps between intensely edited rhythm freakouts and bass mangles with an omnipresent compositional element that lends much of his work a developed melodic and harmonic style close to that of label mate Boxcutter, or IDM heroes Wauvenfold or Funkstorung. Strong gear from a talented producer.

ITAL TEK - Blood Line
Planet Mu

Bumper 4-tracker from newcomer iTAL tEK for Planet Mu. This is the Brighton based producer’s debut 12″ and is the perfect introduction to his ‘darker’ sound, and as the rest of the scene moves into a more 4/4 direction we see iTAL tEK taking things into the basement and adding a sizable chunk of noise into his productions.

It reminds me of when the whole Renegade Hardware sound took hold of drum ‘n bass, and that’s no bad thing - there’s always space for growling distortion and a bad attitude in my mind. I guess Vex’d and more recently Cloaks have approached this sound, but iTAL tEK brings enough variation to make this 12″ stand out, and far from merely exploring a bit these tracks have some serious bass weight. You know what to do - bring the darkness!

ITAL TEK - Deep Pools
Square Records

Debut twelve on Brighton’s Square imprint, and it’s a goodun - seeing the return of the mighty Ital Tek with his first new material since his “Blood Line” release for Planet Mu. “Deep Pools” is the kind of sweeping, widescreen dubstep that the Hot Flush crew have been digging of late, the title track mining the same kind of uber-spacious, emotive source material as Vaccine, beautifully steered by the hands of clearly gifted producer. The theme continues on the flip, with “Weave” featuring the vocals of Anneka, adding some popular motif’s to the distinctly underground production. Good stuff.]]>
